I am in need of a barn/facility manager and a training assistant/show groom.

 Strasburg, Colorado

Both positions require that the employee live on the facility. In addition the assistant training position requires travel.  Both positions require experience in both english and western disciplines and the necessities surrounding both environments. Both employees must be qualified, preferably have experience and comfort working with young and mature show/breeding stallions of various breeds, as well.  A strong background in dressage, hunter/jumper and reining, reined cow horse and cutting disciplines is preferred, as well as some background as a veterinary assistant with an emphasis on the care and maintenance of equine athletes for show and performance, along with some  exposure to and experience with equine breeding environments.

Could you please make suggestions and/or provide examples as to the wording of the ads so I don't discourage anyone who may be interested in applying.  I am willing to train the right person for either or both positions, as long as they have some background and exhibit the proper attitude and character these jobs require, as well as the aptitude and high energy level and good physical condition necessary to perform them both.

The applicants must, of course be congenial, polite, willing to take and follow instruction,  neat, clean and organized, hard working, dedicated, energetic and comfortable working with the public.

Both positions are salaried, the employee may have a horse or pet (outdoors).  Living quarters are in the main residence, room and board for the employee and their horse, if they have one is also included.  It is a part of the salary, which is negotiable and based on qualifications and experience.  Male and/or female applicants are, of course acceptable applicants though they will both live in the very large main residence with me.  Females may be happier in such an environment but males are encouraged to apply.

Passing a drug screen and  background check is a requirement and a clear criminal record a must, as well.  They must also provide references I can contact.

Riding/training instructions and opportunities to compete are also included as part of the training assistant/show groom position.

I haven't previously had to advertise to fill any position so this is new to me and I would be grateful for your help with the wording of the ads.

Summer Camp Equestrian Director

Camp Augusta  Nevada City, CAPeople can have a job, a career, or a calling. Camp Augusta is looking for folks who have a calling. Work, play, learn, struggle and grow in a vibrant community this summer facilitating the growth of children, yourself and others in the community. Just because you can get a job at any camp, doesn’t mean that you want a job at any camp. Camp Augusta is different than most camps because we operate on a structure of flat hierarchy, consensus and intention with every action. We also have many activities that you are unlikely to find at other camps.

We are a residential summer camp located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. We have six sessions during our season, 3 one week and 3 two week, with 90 campers (aged 8-16) each session. Our staff training begins on May 20th, and the main season runs through August 16.

We aim to give children the experience of living without many of the modern conveniences that are present in their everyday lives. They get the chance to experience living in an open-air cabin without electricity. There are no televisions or stereos so they make their own music. We offer a variety of activities that they may not have tried or even seen before: sword fighting, whips, fire spinning, high and low ropes, archery and horseback riding to name a few. There is a great deal of information on our website regarding the philosophy of camp and the activities we offer. If you are interested in Camp Augusta, please look those over carefully.

Our website, CampAugusta.org, has descriptions of all available positions under the "staff" heading. We have openings for counselors, kitchen, and a number of leadership positions. When you are ready, go to the "staff Application" page and follow the instructions for submitting an application.

Equestrian Director.

Our equestrian program is small, 8 horses. We teach predominantly Western riding with a small amount of English and offer both trail rides and basic arena work. The Equestrian Director leads program development and delivery working alongside the Assistant Equestrian Director.  In addition to running our program they are responsible for feeding & mucking as well as general herd maintenance.  CHA certification (or ability to obtain) or 3+ years leading a similar program required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

-You must be at least 19 years old

(3 years older than oldest camper; average age of staff is 23/24)

(It is not uncommon to have 29 year old counselors. 39 happens too!)

-Make sure this camp is right for you.  Read the entire staff experience section on our website.  Read the PDF files contained there as well.

-Summer is from May 20th through August 16th (preferable for you to be able to arrive by May 21st for additional program training)

-If desired, there are pre-season family camps and school groups, starting in late April.  Later start dates are possible depending on skills.  Post summer work is available as well.

Living and Working at Camp Augusta Requires:

·         Flexibility (responding to quickly changing schedules and needs)

·         Stamina (on the job 24/7, working in a physically demanding environment that requires the utmost care and attention)

·         Communication skills to people of all ages and backgrounds (fellow staff, children, and parents, including those from other countries)

·         Patience and compassion (working with children and staff)

·         Conflict resolution (other staff as well as children)

·         Ability to work in stressful situations (very tight schedule, high expectations, rapidly changing environment)

·         Ability to react quickly and stay calm in high stress environments (accidents/injuries, high-stress cabin group)

·         Ability to work with and relate to people of various ages (child-adult)

·         Program and curriculum creation/development/evolution/assessment/improvement (new clinic creations, evening program creations, etc.)

Seeking Intern/Serious Horsemanship Student

Calhan, Colorado

Due to an anonymous "hate mailer", we will state up front before our ad (although we state within the ad itself that we have no available funds to have a paid position) that we are seeking an intern who is willing to accept payment in the form of instruction, to include riding lessons, working with everything from foals to stallions, and perhaps for those who prove dedicated, the opportunity to show and make a name for themselves with high quality bloodstock.  Interns will also have the opportunity to help with breeding.  In no way do we take advantage of our occasional helpers and ask them to give more than they get.  Historically, we rarely have help on this farm and our family does everything.  We get less from the occasional intern situation that we give, but we hope to teach a true love of horses and horsemanship, which to us makes it worthwhile.  We currently have a groom who is a novice, but are still seeking a person with more experience who can help with breaking horses (not by themselves, but to assist the head trainer) and showing.

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual (intern) to help groom and prepare horses for halter and performance. This position may include riding for those who progress and qualify. Primary importance is a love of horsemanship and horses. Position available part time for someone to assist in helping groom, condition and work horses on the ground (longeing, bitting, and perhaps driving if the individual is capable...if not, we will teach). We are looking for someone who wants experience showing in halter, sporthorse, and performance and would be excited at the opportunity to show top quality horses at class A shows and will travel with us to the show and assist in preparation and showing of the show string. We will give you as much instruction as we can in the areas you need. The ideal candidate will be a hard worker, show up on time, be honest, a good team player, and dedicated to learning horsemanship. Experience is not as necessary as a great attitude and the desire to learn. English and Western disciplines are EQUALLY respected here. Professionalism is expected in every circumstance. Zero tolerance for profanity, drug or alcohol use, or cruelty. This position is a work/study position (this is a non paid position). Room and board not available. You will occasionally be asked to help with various chores (cleaning tack, sweeping barn, occasional mucking). Please contact us with questions.website: http://www.quintessentialarabians.com

It generally works out to 5.00 per day per stall and 15-20.00 per day for the rest of the barn area including cleaning outside in the dry lot and/or pasture as required. There is an employment contract. You must be at least 18 years old and have a clean driver's license. Occasionally you will be asked to work Sundays (for increased compensation.)Please do not call if you want full time work; this is only part time. No housing provided.

Help available I have worked as a paralegal at the same law office for over 20 years.  I have also worked a second job a few nights a week as a prep cook at a local restaurant for the past seven years.  Prior to becoming a paralegal, I worked in property management for four years.   I am a published author.  My attorney/boss is planning to retire in the near future.  My children are grown.  During the four years my former husband was stationed at at the Pentagon, I worked part time as a trail guide for tourist in Falls Park in DC.  I groomed, prepared, and tacked up the horses to prepare for trail, and then matched them to rider ability (many had never been on a horse in their life).  From time to time, I've worked as a fill in at various stables on weekends, feeding, turning out, cleaning, etc.

I have extensive horse experience and sense.  I am passionate about horses, and enjoy people.  I am a hard worker with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.  I may not know it all, but am willing and able to learn - your way.

I am seeking a position wherein I can utilize my horse, people, administrative skills and business acumen.  I am a fifty year old woman, strong, and accustomed to extreme mental and physical labor.  An animal lover by nature, I have never met an animal I could not develop an affinity with.  I am well traveled but have spent most of my life in Indiana.  I would love to experience the western or eastern part of the United States.

I am seeking a live on position - I would travel light and can live frugally.  My employment history proves that I am a keeper - I tend to grow and thrive where I am planted and stay there.  I am seeking a life experience - where I can work and care for horses (and other animals perhaps), manage, assist, and multitask in any way I can be of service.  I would be willing to commit to at least one year - if the arrangement if mutually beneficial, perhaps several years.  In the meantime, I can pursue my writing in spare time.  I love nature, wilderness, being self-sufficient.  I would love to learn about gardening, farming, and other such endeavors.  As a bonus, I have excellent phone and sales skills, and handle the accounting (billing and receivables) for our law office.

If you find any of my qualifications suitable for your needs, please advise with details of any position which may be coming available.
