I have been around horses most of my life, so I don't fear them. I've
ridden mostly stubborn horses, so I know how to deal with them. I
don't beleive in using whips, spurs or bits, as they can cause harm
to the horse. I have been in only one competition, in which I
'subbed' for my cousin - won 3rd (Wester Pleasure), 4th (Walk/Trot)
& Particapant.
I am looking for job doing Riding-Western, Housekeeper/Groom. As I am currently underweight and fighting anorexia/eating disorder (most likely caused by family-induced stress & social isolation), I can do limited groom jobs - such as heavy lifting. I am a quick learner, usually only needing to be shown once or twice how to do something, and willing to learn anything.
When I ride, I am extremely patient and tend to do with horses as their behavior/personality sees fit. Here a couple of examples:
Ex.1 - My uncle once had a horse named Sugar who was limp in her left hind leg and tended to like to trot or canter when you wanted her to walk. Seeing as no one wanted to ride her, I started to and noticed her problem almsost immediately. After about a week of getting used to her personality and habits, the next time I rode her, I made her stand in a corner of the small indoor riding arena for a short amount of time every time she tried to bolt on me. I increased the time in the corner every time she did it, and after a couple of days at most, she stopped doing it. Because of her stubborn personality and being sued to getting away with stuff like that, I knew she would simply stand there for any amount of time without something blocking her way.
Ex.2 - My uncle's ex-girlfriend had a horse named Diamond. He, too, was a stubborn horse. He liked to test people who rode him for the first time, to see what he could get away with. He would mutliple stuff - stopping suddenly, tossing his head, trying to bite the bit, bucking, rearing, slowing down when you wanted him to speed up, speeding up when you wanted him to slow down, trying to yank the reins from your hands, kicking/biting at you when grooming/saddling him, etc. Needless to say, he quickly found out that I wouldn't put up with any of it and we formed a bond. Every time he tried something while I was riding him, I would force him to turn in small circle one way and then the other a couple of times before resuming, doing that every time he tried to either speed up when I wanted him to slow down or slow down when I wanted him to speed up, tried to bite the bit,stopping suddenly, trying to buck or rear or try to yank the reins from my hands. When he tried to kick or bite me when I was grooming and/or saddling him, I would either gently bop him on the nose (I know better than to slap or hit the nose too hard because the bone there can easily break) or talk to him, depending on what he did. Sadly, though, my uncles' ex-girlfriend sold him out of jealously a year later because Diamond would pitch a fit every time she tried to ride him (because she used spurs and whips on him without remorse) and let me ride him without any problems.
I like to ask questions pertaining to whatever I am learning, and I tend to observe more than I talk. I am willing to relocate. I would appreciate being hired somewhere I may work for free accomidations for me and a possible horse.
