                 What is Team Penning?

Team Cattle Penning is one of the fastest growing western horse sports in North America , and Cimarron Arena Horse Club is proud to be part of the fast paced action and excitement. This is a sport for the whole family - men,  women and children of all ages. Team penning holds appeal for anyone with a fondness for horses and a love of the outdoors.

Fast  paced and exciting, a team of three riders has 60 seconds to separate three specifically numbered cattle from a herd of thirty. After the appropriate cattle have been separated they must be driven into a small pen located at the opposite end of the arena. To make things more difficult, no more than four cattle are allowed across the foul line at  one time or the team is automatically disqualified. Teamwork is of the essence, individuals must work together like a finely tuned machine to achieve the desired result - the fastest time with the most cattle penned. Sometimes the cows WIN!!

What is Team Sorting?

A team of two or three riders has to sort ten numbered cattle from one end of an arena to the other. So what's so hard about that? Well first, the team is given a specific numbered cow, such as "number 3", to begin the sorting process. Each cow must be cut from the remaining herd in order, and moved to the opposite end of the arena. They must go on sequence 3, 4, 5, etc&ldots;. Until all ten are sorted. If a cow is sorted out of order the team is disqualified. If a cow sneaks back while the team is attempting to sort the rest of the herd the team is disqualified. That does't sound that tough does it? Well you should give it a try and see how sneaky and unpredictable cows can be.!
